AWB Sunset?

When will this ban sunset and why,therefore,would pricess come down? I ask because I'm interested in buying an Olympic PCR-16 but if prices may dip soon I'd be smarter to wait. Thank you,experts!

    nobody really knows if the ban will sunset, its all speculation!!! i know a few manufacturers that in the past made folding stocks---highcap mags and other no-nos according to the ban or brady bill, and they are not tooling or gearing up in anticipation of the sunset. anything could happen, like last minute concessions in congress!! if i were you , if i liked the weapon and it was new and at a decent price, i would probably consider the investment. labor in manufacturing and raw materials and shipping never really gets any cheaper!!!!

    The sunset date is September 13, 2004.

    Do not look for any price reduction of current "post-ban" guns; competition keeps the prices as low as they could possibly be.

    Look for some companies to offer "evil" features such as flash hiders & bayonet lugs, for the same price, or maybe a slight increase. Other companies, such as Colt, will NOT offer these features, but that is a business decision as they try to remain politically correct.

    I expect NIB pre-ban guns to continue to hold their value; they will always be collectible. On the other hand, I expect well-used pre-bans, & Mixed Parts Mongrels, to sell for substantially less than they do now.

    There is no intrinsic value to flash hiders & bayonet lugs; none of us is ever going to be involved in a firefight at night, or in hand-to-hand combat with bayonets. People only wanted these features because the government told them that they couldn't have them.

    How do you think this will effect the importation of high quality firearms? Do you think one will be able to by new H&K 91s again? I had one I sold before the ban for $700. I think I've seen the same gun for $2,500.00!

    Due to the exchange rate, German-made firearms will always be too expensive for all but the most affluent shooters. This will probably get worse, not better.

    The current ban on importing military-style rifles is based on an Executive Order, not law. Don't expect any change in that policy as long as the White House is occupied by a Democrat or a Republican.

    Picwick, the AWB will not effect imported weapons. You will still not be able to get an HK. However, HK is building a new factory down south somewhere. That will make them an American made weapon.
    I agree with Neal that some companies will not manufacture their new forearms with the 'evil features'. I disagree with him about the prices of post-bans. I think the price will actually go up on those rifles, because of the ban. Years down the road someone will be willing to pay a bunch of money for a rifle that fell into the time line of the 10 year ban. JMHO
