Carcano rifles built for Japanese?

Hello,
I'm trying to find information on Carcano rifles built for the Japanese military. A short history, type or types manufactured and if there is any collector interest would be appreciated.

  They are designated "Type I" rifles and are 6.5mm. They have a limited collector value as most Arisaka/Japanese collectors prefer a homeland made product.
