Question on a Marlin Lever Action 30-30
This is my father's rifle, and I'm simply trying to identify it, and possibly find out how much it's worth.
It's 30-30 caliber, lever action, side ejection. It's very similar to their 336 line of rifles, however there is a notable difference. The front hook for the sling is on the barrel, not on the stock. This leads me to believe it isn't in the catalog.
Here is what is stamped on the barrel: "THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CONN., U.S.A. EST 1870-MICRO-GOOVE BARREL-MOD.336 CAL. 30-30 WIN."
As it says there, it is a model 336, but I don't see it in their catalog anywhere. Is it just an old model?

MARLIN WAS FOUNDED IN 1870 , MAYBE IT'S A COMMERATIVE . I DON'T THINK THEY MADE THE 336 UNTIL LATER.
Models 39 and 336 are the oldest shoulder arm designs in the world still being produced. Originally introduced as Models 1891 and 1893 respectively, they still mirror the original designs.
In 1893, Marlin produced a new action for Marlin .32/40 and .38/55 cartridges. When the .30/30 introduced smokeless powder, he quickly added that caliber. Designation of this rifle was changed to Model 336 in 1948 when a round bolt was substituted for the original square one to strengthen the action. Such constant improvement over the years has been another Marlin legacy. Never content with design, Marlin engineers have always sought improvement.
Model 336 is currently one of the country's premier deer rifles, and well over three million have been made since the original 1893 was introduced.GO TO LINK BELOW FOR MORE INFO !
