Legal revolvers in Republic of Kalifornia?
What is the legal barrel length as to revolvers in CA? My brother in Sac. is thinking of getting a revolver to keep in his home. I have his 4 inch S&W 38 special here and was wondering if it is legal in CA? I saw that the Astra model 960s were not able to be sold to CA and they have a 4 inch barrel so is a 4 inch barrel too short in CA? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If he can legaly have his S&W in CA then I told him to find a FFL dealer in SAC for me to ship it to him at. I went to a site that supposedly had CA's gun laws but they read like a puzzle! Very complicated to say the least!

If you ship it on Tuesday, the laws will most likely change on Thursday.

There are no limits on barrel length. The list of guns is based on
gun makers who pay to have their guns tested & listed. There are a few exceptions but for the most part most handguns can be purchased if the maker pays the fee. (Most obvious exception are pistols that have magazines in front of the trigger. Even in this case there are exceptions for some Olympic pistols.)
Most handguns not on the list can be transferred between private parties if you go through a FFL holder AND BOTH PARTIES ARE KALIFORNIA RESIDENTS.0
