Cost effective finish?

I ran a search before asking but didn't really find any answer...
I have a 200$ Security Six that is my trail/camping/hiking/whatever gun.
The blueing is pretty much shot from holster wear and, since it get wet and sweaty all the time I'm afraid rust will eventually get to it.
What would be a cheap and effective way to refinish that gun? I'm looking for a matte black finish, nothing fancy.
My smith can re-blue it for 150$. Sounds fair but it will only delay the problem.

I'll appreciate any opinons, thanks in advance.

    Maybe a Teflon or moly based finish. Check with Arizona Response Systems or Robar or look into some Gunkote or Duracoat.

    I looked at GunKote. Price is great, has anybody tried that themself? How did it go, is it holding up?

    Parkerizing is a good outdoor finish and might be cheaper. Look into some of Brownells degrease, spray and bake finishes for best economy.
    Robar is supposed to be a great whether resistant finish but it isn't cheap.

    May not look quite as good or be as durable but do-it-yourself cold blueing will be the cheapest. Seems hard to justify spending almost as much as the gun will be worth to refinish it. If the cold blue wears just touch it up.

    i had a glock duracoated and have yet to find a way to damage the finish.

    Thanks everybody,Gruntled do you recommend any particular brand?
    Also is there any trick in the prep work?

    if you cold blue just be sure you completely degrease it and i like to handle with gloves after degreasing

    I've only tried one product so I can't compare them. One tube has lasted me a long time & done quite a few guns. I would ask at a good gun shop for their advice. The instructions on the tube have worked well for me.
