7.9/ 8mm

toold
pick up a old gun with funny looking action.
its a auto. guy give me a box of 8mm shells
with it.BUT on gun it saids [ maxin 7.9mm made in egypt
CAN I USE THE 8MM IN IT??

    If it looks like this, it's a "HAKIM" chambered for the standard 8mm Mauser cartridge, also known as 7.92 x 57mm.

    If you have doubts about it take it to a QUALIFIED gunsmith and have him check it out and/or test fire it, for safety.

    Rufe-Snow is correct...The HAKIM can be a fun gun to shoot...Had one some years back...wish I'd have kept it! .8mm is so cheap and plentyful one can afford to shoot it......

    Depends on condition, Is their any pitting on the metal?, What shape is the bore in?, How about the stock? etc.etc. You got all the parts for it, magazine? etc. Does it function OK? Believe the Hakim has a gas value, that will freeze up if not cleaned, after corrosive ammo.

    You get the picture!

    Hey Don,

    The Hakim is the Egyptian manufactured version of the Swedish Ljungman rifle. The Swedes originally manufactured it in 6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser as it was their national military cartridge. If you are having trouble figuring out a price, look on the GB auction site under the search Hakim or Ljungman. The prices for a Swedish manufactured gun will be substantially higher than for the Hakim as the Swede is considered much higher quality. This is not to say the Hakim is not a good gun (and fun to shoot as well) it is just considered more collectable. If you are having trouble disassembling the Hakim, go to www.militaryrifle.com where you will find good step by step instructions.

    I believe the Hakim was chambered only for the 7.92x57 ("8mm") Mauser round. There is, however, the 7.9x57 Mauser, which was the first version - the "JR" which uses a slightly smaller (.318" vs. .323" nominal) bullet. Just to CYA, have the bore slugged. Firing the standard .323" bullet loads in a .318" bore is not good for the firearm nor the shooter's health.

    Good advice about slugging the bbl.I think the Hakim was introduced long after the .318, but can't be too safe!!!!
