Colt vs. Olympic ...help help

I have an Olympic Arms AR15 colapsable stock carbine with lug, forward assist, and flash sup.. Bought it new in mid 80's. Have a neighbor with a Colt carbine with same above mentioned "evils". Both guns are about 98%. He wants to sell me his for $1500. Should I sell mine and use the money to buy his Colt, or keep the Olympic? P.S. can't have both.[xx(] What is a good price for a pre-ban Olympic? Thanks.

    I would keep the Oly. Colt is a good rifle, but most of its allure comes from it being the Governments choice. I would never pay $1500 dollars for that Colt if I already had an OLY(Which I do and Love)

    Colt sells the best quailty in AR type rifles. I would wait for the ban to sunset and find a better price.

    The Oly has a lifetime factorty warranty if its a factory gun and unmodified.
    The Colt no longer has so called mfg support.
    The Colt preban AR15 prices are dropping into the $1100-$1200 range at tops, right now $1500 sounds kind of high.
    The prices on Colt's all depended on the AWB sunsetting.
    IMHO I would keep the Oly...Aint nothing wrong with them at all...

    The Colt value is likely higher than suggested, depending on the characteristics and age of the particular Carbine. Carbines are worth a lot more than the more common rifles. An AR-15 SP1 carbine is not worth as much as an AR-15A2 Government Model Carbine with all the prized late Pre-Ban features. What model is the neighbor's?

    The sunset of the AW ban will not have much effect on Pre-Ban Colts since Colt altered the AR-15 well before the ban, and thus introduced features most find unacceptable, such as the receiver block, large pins and the removal of the bayonet lug. I belive the Colts made prior to those changes will retain their value and continue to increase in value, even if the ban sunsets. I cannot see Colt removing the block and going back to small pins. The Colt will always be worth more than the Olympic, and I would recommend the Colt, but then I have a bias.

    If you are the a collector the Colt might be a good idea, but from a shooter's position I'd say no way.....

    Thanks for all the imput. I knew what the Judge's answer would be[:)]. I think it is a SP1 carbine but will check this weekend. I have an SP1 rifle and thought it would be nice to have a pair.[:p]
