Sighting in
what would be a good range to sight in my marlin .35?

Since I'll be sighting in a new rifle I thought it would be a good time to get others input on the subject. I'll be working with a Rem.700 ADL in 270. My scope is a Buckmaster Nikon 3x9x40 ( I know there are better scopes out there.) I'm using Leopold Rail and rings. Remingtons core-lok in 130 Gr is what I'm hoping to be able to use as it is the most available to me. Most of my hunting offers shots in the 40 to 80 yd. range , with sometimes a 200 yd shot. I'll be using a bench rest. I've sighted in several rifles to my satisfaction but want to hear what others may have to say. Thanks in advance.

Hello Mike when I was in basic training many years ago we sighted in at 1000 inches the Idea is your group size is or should be very small at this distance "builds confidence in the shooter" and should be about the same as ZERO at 100 yards. It would all depend on how far the sights both IRON/OPEN or SCOPE is above boreline on where 25 yards and downrange bullet paths would be on the same height.hope this helps 0 -
RE: Sighting in at 25 yards. That is OK for certain circunstances; standard caliber and standard scope height above the bore. For instance a 30-06 with standard mounts at 1 1/2" above the bore. This will come quite close to giving proper trajectory and utilizing the full range of the projectiles usefullness. When you go to iron sights 25 yards is no longer a good idea, ALMOST. Use the 25 yards for initial sight alignment. At short distance you are almost guarranted to hit your target from the start, and you don't need a lot of telescope to see where your hitting. Then find the exterior balistics for your bullet and do some long range target shooting. Once you have properly sighted in for your rifle it might be interesting to shoot a 25 yd. target to find out how high or low you really are at that distance. Remember that for future use. 0
