Hi-Point a 2nd visit
I have a CZ 75 I bought new and took to the range. Miss-feed after Miss-feed. The ramp was too shallow. It had to be reworked by a gunsmith. I have a Walther 99 that is stubborn about all types of Ammo. Now for the Hi-Point. I bought it for my son, took it to the range, and promptly shot 300 round of Winchester 9mm FMJ through it with out one failure to load or shoot. Now a year has passed. Not one problem with the Hi-Point! I estimate we have fired over 3000 rounds of 9mm FMJ through this gun without a major problem. I also bought a brand new Accent 3 door automobile in 1995. At the time it was the lowest priced car in America. It now has 196 thousand miles on it and runs like brand new. Replaced a alternator and a water pump. This elitist BS is rampant on these gunboards. Don't listen to it. I own a Makarov 1976 Russian. It is the best gun I ever owned and I paid $150 dollars for it. Shoots any kind of ammunition and is accurate as can be. Buy your $1000 guns that need tweaking from a gunsmith from the time they are born. Leave the rest of us alone. We are going to the range to fire our Hi-Points! and Mak's.

No doubt, Makarovs are good guns. I have had bad experiences with Hi Points. However, Hi Point has an excellant warranty. The ones that I have sent in for customers to get fixed have all come back with an extra mag, and they seem to work good. It depends on what you want a gun for. For CCW I would not want to carry that heavy boat anchor around and I don't know a single police officer that would trust his or her life with one. If it is just for plinking and your life doesn't depend on it, great buy the Hi Point, otherwise stick with Sig,Glock,Berreta,Colt Kimber ETC. 0 -
I own guns on both ends of the spectrum, all work well. I have a 40S&W Hipoint that I've been trying to get a jam in without any luck. It's cheap and ugly, but it works so I have nothing bad to say so far. When it jams/breaks/blows up, you'll hear about it[:D]

I agree about the Makarovs! Have (and still do ) owned several and feel they are really fine pistols, particularly for the money! As far as it being elitist B-S about slamming on Hi-Points though, you are all wet. I hold them, Lorcins and Bryco's in the lowest possible esteem. I, too, feel that people oftentimes overpay for a name and this practice is certainly not economically wise. Come back to the board and post your assesment of that pistol after it comes apart in your sons face ( please don't think I am wishing this failure on you guys, I'm just a realist!) as I have seen happen with ALL of the abovementioned weapons, PERSONALLY! It is my, and several other peoples opinion on this forum, that these guns will have a very short lifespan and should likely not be used at the same frequency as a better made weapon.
Growing up, my father and I raced gokarts. Several of the other competitors berated my father when he spent $300 on a crash helmet for me stating something to the effect of " hell, Bill, I spent $50 at K-mart on my kids helmet and it's plenty good enough for his needs...you're just throwing money away!". My fathers response? "Thats okay, your kid has a $50 head, put it in a $50 helmet if you want but I think a little more of my boys safety than that!"...this seemed to end the arguement finger pointing and cries of "elitist snob" right there and then!
I think we, on this forum have an ethical and perhaps legal duty/imperative to insure that the advice we give is well thought out and above all, safety minded. I also feel that you CAN be well served with a few hundred dollars for a good, quality pistol. I just think sometimes the issue gets a little muddied becuase a $200 pistol is not always a good deal! That is specious logic at best! It ceases to be a good deal when someone ( God forbid!!! ) gets hurt! Good luck.
