need help defining a term

when you read about a receiver being " in the white" or a barrel breech being " in the white " what exactly does this mean? thanks

It means it has no finish--meaning no "blueing" or "phosphate coatings," etc.--it's just the bare metal.

That means that no bluing or other agent has been applied to the metal surface, only the raw steel is visible, hence "in the white"

Hello nebrguy,
I may be wrong, but I think of "in the white" as being a new part that has never had a finish applied as opposed to an old part that has had the finish worn off and is now bare metal.
Just my 2 cents.
