Corrosive Ammo

Maybe a stupid question but if you fire corrosive ammo and then soon after clean the bore properly will there still be corrosion?

  Can someone run through how to clean a rifle after using corrosive ammo? I was told just to run a rag with ammonia (ie, use a windex-type solvent) and clean as normal. Is it this easy? Thanks.

  I've heard of people using diesal fuel to clean their weapons. If you are shooting corrosive ammo just clean the weapon after every time you shoot it with a standard solvent and oil it for storage. I would think that an anal cleaning of your gun would sufice. The other solution is to shoot non corrosive ammo unless you are trying to get rid of some ammo in your stash. Me personally, I clean my guns as if I going to show them every time I go shooting. I take pride in being able to take my guns down and I prefer to clean them well in order to ensure their functionability.

  Thanks for all the info. I shoot quite a bit of surplus ammo, I have a Mosin Nagant M38. I do live in a dry climate, looks like I need to find some surplus GI bore cleaner. Any ideas as to where to find some?

  You may find it hard to find the old LSA Military solvent today. Hot soapy water and follow up with a moisture displacing lube. Do not wait as I have seen serious damage done in less then 24Hrs. I have a friend who shot some ammo he did not know was corrosive and it did a serious number on his rifle. Best bet is to shoot diferent ammo and avoid the problem in the first place.
