Colt SAA cylinder removeal

I bought some 45 long colt for Toolbabes SAA (first gen) And thay were not kidding it was long. Too long. As I was loading it the cylinder would not turn to load the last round. After looking at it. The problem is that the bullit is sticking out the front and hitting the barrel. I can not turn it backwards to unload it. Can I remove the cylinder to unload it? If so how?

    You can remove the cylinder pin and slide the cylinder out the right side.

    The gun should be on half-cock and the loading gate open, but be very careful since there are rounds in the cylinder.

    Another possibility is to tap the offending bullet back into the case far enough to clear the frame, but that would put you in front of the gun and be dangerous.

    If you are not able to "safely" perform the task, take it to a gunsmith and have him do it.

    I'm curious about the 'long' loads.Are they some sort of "sledge hammer " load with big bullets...like Buffalo bore makes? If so you sufre as heck don't want to fire em in a Colt,or clone.
    I think the gun will HAVE to be on half-cock to remove the cylinder,so the bolt will be dropped out of the way.
    Pls let us know just what the problem is/was,would ya??

    The end of the bullits are sticking out the cylinder about 1/16th of an inch and are hitting the barrel.
    How do you remove the cylinder? are you talking about pulling a pin that goes throught the cylinder?

    10-4 PULLL THE CLYINDER PIN AND THE CYLINDER WILL COME OUT THE RIGHT SIDE WITH THE HAMMER ON HALF COCK.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    On first Generation SAAs either there is a spring push latch in front of the cylinder on the side of the frame, just below the cylinder pin or on earlier "black powder frame" models there is a small screw in front of the frame just under the cylinder pin which has to be removed.
    The Cylinder pin can then be pulled forward and out.
    THE HAMMER HAS TO BE AT HALF COCK when removing or replacing the cylinder or scratching/ marring of the cylinder will result.

    I was thinking I could take my cutting torch and melt the lead out. This way I would not need to remove the cylinder

    P.S. Last time I took a gun to a gunsmith. Winchester model 12. It cost me $85.00 And was damaged by the gunsmith. (only winchesters gave me the new parts to repair it. Thanks again) And now it hang fires. I can mess up a gun myself just as good as any gunsmith can. And save myself the money.

    Tools..... DO NOT use a torch on it. You will probably touch off the powder in the case and blow yourself up, not to mention ruin your gun.

    I think your fingers and face are well worth the cost a gunsmith would charge to correct the problem. Sounds like you got some bad reloads someone made who was not checking overall length.

    Seems to me the protruding bullet is keeping the cylinder from turning clockwise and the hand is keeping it from turning the other way. I don't think pulling the cylinder center-pin is the answer. If you are comfortable with taking the gun apart, take off the grip frame and trigger guard. Then take out the trigger and bolt spring, one screw in the bottom. Then take out three trigger, bolt and hammer screws on the left side. You can then take out the hammer, thru the bottom, which removes the hand. The cylinder will then turn counterclockwise and you can push the round out with the ejector rod. Hope this helps.
