H&K VP70Z
Does anybody here have one of these? I am an avid collector (or at least am begining to be one) of H&k pistols. I am curious about a good price range as I have found one here on Gunbroker.com for about 750 bucks with 3 18 round mags. I need one of these as well as a H&k p9. So...does anybody have any idea as to how they are or are the owners happy with there performance.
I already own a ups .45 as well as a P7 psp and I love them both. any feed back will be appreciated as long as it makes sense and does not include that idiot Bison and his Puss as s remarks

I bought 4 HK VP70Z guns in August of 1984 when they were new to the public market. They were priced at $243.31 with 4 high cap mags, out the door. This was from my dealer in Chattanooga, Tn. They are a very well made gun with few moving parts. 7 I believe. They have a long & heavy trigger pull due to cocking the striker each time. Accuracy was minimal because of this. I think they were originally designed for the German police in full auto with an attachable sholder stock. I had no idea they have appreciated that much in value, but then I have not seen one sell for that much either. 0 -

I believe that to be a fair price as long as it's NIB with all paperwork and accessories that originally came with the pistol.
I sold one a couple of years ago, that was in excellent condition, with (3) extra magazines, no box, for $615.
What Clays is telling you is true, about the trigger pull. I measured mine it was app. 16 lbs. Even after I installed a Wolff spring kit it was over 12 lbs. Unless you have finger strength like Arnold S., all you can do is spray & pray.

I had pretty much the same experience with the VP70z when they first came out. After having shot two different specimens of what I considered to be a very "cool" pistol, I declined to purchase one due the the horrendous trigger pull. By the time you were at the end of the magazine, your finger was tired! I believe it's an example of an extremely good idea in a "machine pistol" being a poor idea in a semi auto handgun. It would however make a nice addition to a 9mm collection and is an intriguing conversation piece. 0 -
well, i do own one of these and the trigger pull is heavy but it is managable. alot of fire power..i've got four mags with mine so thats alot of rounds..i do think this gun was a little a head of its time.. i can send you pic's if you like hksrule..just let me know toolman9mm@yahoo.com 0 -
Actually, the "Z" version was the "Civilian" version of the VP70. The "Z" stands for "Zivilversion" in German, or "civilian" version. Therefore, a VP70Z cannot be a full-auto version.
There were three versions of the VP, known as the VP70, the VP70M and the VP70Z. The "M" in VP70M stands for "Milit?r," or "Military" in German. When in burst mode, the cyclic rate of the VP70 is 2200 rounds per minute!
I have seen "Z" models for far less than $750, and magazines are not too high since the demand is so small. Still, the guns and magazines are not common, so if you like the package, buy it. They are not going to get any less expensive, and what is a couple of hundred over a lifetime?
To me the main interst of the gun is to bother Glock owners who claim that Glocks were the first polymer-framed guns. Fun.0 -
I have one H&K VP70Z that I picked up in the 80's w/4 mags.
And I absolutely LOVE it.
They showed up at dealers in North Carolina in the mid 80's
at an MSRP of right around $700.00.
The sales were dismal according to the largest gun shop in Fayetteville(Next to Ft. Bragg).
So,within a year,H&K had pulled them off the market in the U.S.
H&K reintroduced them a year or so later at half the price.
And still could not sell large numbers of them.
I LOVE them,and buy them whenever I find one in good shape,
w/3-or more mags included...
and I can usually get them at a discount if the person selling their
VP70 has another gun they just can't live without.
The trigger pull is HEAVY,and the springs on the slide are also hard for females to cycle.
MY wife is almost 6 feet tall and has a strong grip,however she has a hard time chambering the first round.
But she loves the 18 shots that the gun provides. With absolutely no practice she was able to shoot a 5 inch group at 10 feet.
The first shot was just out of the circle,however 17 of them were INSIDE the circle.
IMNSHO as an old old male,I believe this is one of the best guns to come down the road in the last 25 years.
AND as time goes by people will be sorry they did not hang on to the one they "Use To Have".
I have probably shot 3 or 4 thousand rounds thru it and there is very little wear visible to the naked eye...
The ONE thing I truly HATE is the finish that was applied to the guns sold to the civilian market.
THAT finish requires a LOT of time,and attention.
Just thought I would add my two cents worth to this subject.
The pistol will always be one of my favorites,and I will pass them down to my boys.0 -

That's steep... routinely available in new or like new condition for $600 with spare mags... keep looking.

I owned one of these about 20 years ago. I bought it because it looked like a ray gun, had the highest capacity of ANY handgun around, and was the first polimer framed handgun. The trigger pull was horrible, but, I learned to get almost at the breaking point, and then squeeze slowly until it fired. Of course, you could forget this as far as a self defense pistol. The best thing about it, besides the capacity, was the fact that I could break the gun down into barrel, slide, frame, and magazine, in about 5 seconds. A friend bought one in Dallas at a gun show about 10 years ago for $400.00. I thought it was a good buy. I took it as we got in his car. He wanted to know how to break it down. He backed the car out, and when he turned around, it was in 4 pieces. I have always liked VP70's, but they are not a very good civilian design. They are quite collectable, as they are one of the rarer HK's that you see nowadays. But I think $600.00 or so is more appropriate 0 -
