Browning A-5 Magnum price help
Could someone give me an idea what a Belgium (1973) Auto-5 12Ga. 3" Mag 30" full choke with a rib worth. The gun is new and unfired but does not have the box. I have a current Blue Book but I would rather rely on what they are really bringing. Thanks in advance.

We can't tell you exactly what is worth either... that piece of information will remain a mystery right up until the day you sell it, and several hundred of them nice purty greenbacks exchange hands. Now, if you want to know what I would pay for it today... about $750.

A-5s seem to bring diffrent prices in diffrent parts of the country.I have seen them bring 1500 plus with the box and paper work,but Bert H is pretty close to real world price. 0 -
'Ol Bert got me again... Nice gun, but perhaps the least popular of the batch. If it were a sweet 16, then all bets would be off.
Bert is a misguided soul who has a soft spot in his heart for Winchester scatterguns. Since few of us can place a real Winchester shotgun, I can only conclude that they're really just rifles that have been shot out or never made a trip to the rifleing bench. Witness the '87... I believe it's really a 45-70 that failed to pass quality control.[;)]
My guess is that Bert only commented on your Browning because his esteemed '87 was a Browning patent... And, boy was that baby ugly!
Anyway (and seriously), Bert's just about right on potential value. The gun will carry limited collector interest because it's a Belgian Browning and because of condition. Interest will be tempered by gauge and ability to toss magnum rounds. In fact, you might find that it will be a shooter who covets your A-5 more than anyone else.

Nord... I "got you again" because your are (a) OLD, (b) FAT, and (c) SLOW[:D].
As for being misguided by my strong appreciation for all things Winchester, and those other firearms invented by the Brillant and Genius mind of John Moses Browning, I guess I can see how you uneducated, unenlightened, cretinous L.C. Smith fans might see it that way. However, to those of us that are REAL firearms afficionados (and who can truly appreciate a fine & intricate piece of mechanical artwork), Winchester "scatterguns" (most especially the Model 21) are the pinnacle of perfection[:D][:D]
And yes, I did respond to this post because the A-5 was one of Mr. Browning's superior accomplishments.[^][^]

I humbly accept your accolades. I don't have a dictionary handy to double check, but "cretinous" must have taken a new meaning... Or been misused. Elcee fans are the "pure" ones, however we pride ourselves in having an open-minded liberal view of all the other lesser firearms.
That Winchester has fumbled into the smoothbore business from time to time has not caused us to look down upon their fine rifles. Even Winchester's feeble attempt to produce Browning's ugly '87 is considered by Elcee fans as an anomoly as we believe Winchester thought it was a rifle. (Just a continuation of the beautiful '86 that was overfed and had a dowagers hump.)
Anyway... Always check any smoothbore Winchester for evidence of spiral lands inside the tube(s). Best evidence is that Winchester smiths would rifle the inside of waterpipes because they couldn't tell the difference between them and their own barrel blanks.[:D]

Nord, even though this topic has strayed, I just want you to know that I have your back covered (from Bert)! As a matter of fact, I own a cherished Win. M24 that occupies a place among my Elcees. It was given me by my father, and has accounted for many quail and doves over the years. Compared to the Elcees, it looks like something that protrudes from the front of a Sherman tank !! 0 -
