Scope for Mini-14
I finally bought my Mini-14 and now I am looking for advice on which scope for it. I don't think I need a "Cadillac" level scope. I would really like to get one in stainless to match the rifle. I really don't know too much about illuminated reticle or red dot stuff, so any input is greatly appreciated. Just going to use it for target/varmit shooting. Thanks in advance for all input. Looking to spend between $100-$225+-.
Thanks,
Greg

for that price i would just go get like a 4x bushnell or something. these aren't super accurate guns, so i wouldnt stick huge scope on it. 0 -
Gotta agree with Jake, if you are looking for a serious target or varmint rifle, the Mini-14 is not it. They just are not that accurate and I am lucky to get a group of 5" at 100 yards with a scope! I can get a better group with my iron sighted Saiga 7.62 X 39 AK variant!
The only way to improve the accuracy of a Mini is to replace the barrel. If you want to do some target or varmint, get yourself a AR-15 or a good bolt action in 223. I use my Mini 14 just as a "fun" gun.

Mini's are "fun" guns, but there is really no need to spend much on a scope ... suggest you consider Tasco or Simmons fixed in 4 or 6 power or variable in 2x7 or 3x9. If you have gun shows in your area you should be able to pick up a good one in one of those categories for $50 or less.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
I put a Buck Gold (3x9-44mm) on mine. Its worked great so far. The rear lens in the bushnell banner, that I had on it originally, came loose after about 500 rounds. The Buck Gold has held up thru about 4-5K rounds so far. It cost me about $120 as I recall. 0 -
I have to agree with the previous posts.
I scoped mine with more than the gun could use, I could only get about 3" at 100 yards... I pulled it off and put on a cheap 4x that came with another gun, and that seems to be a pretty good match.
On a related note.. some of us that bought them 'early' were disapointed in the accuracy. I have not seen any posts for reasonable improvements in accuracy.... did I miss anything ?

Thanks for all the input gentlemen. This really is nothing more than a "fun" gun anyway. As far as the AR-15 goes, I would love to own/buy one except that I live here in the great state of California. So, needless to say, I am limited on what the government will let me buy.

i owned a ranch rifle for a couple years. it seemed like it shot quite a bit better than some older mini 14s id shot. ive heard that some early rifles barrels were crooked, etc from the factory. once i bought a few ar's i really didnt need it. 0 -
I put a simmons 3-9 on mine I got the scope at a gunshow for something like 40 bucks. Scope works great I get better accuracy out of mine than I see most people posting so I don't know what to tell ya to expect out of it, but it is a fun gun. 0
