Winchester 1890 1st Model? 2nd Model?

I have a question that I hope I can get some help with.

How do you tell the difference between a Winchester First Model 1890 rifle and Winchester Second Model 1890 rifle?

Their is an estate auction coming up this weekend and they have some guns listed. One of the guns is a Winchester Model 1890 rifle.

I've?found?on the GunBroker Auction website, their?are listings for Winchester First Model and Second Model 1890 rifles. How do you tell them apart? Thank you in advance.

    The difference is that the 2nd model is a take down. The 1st model is not. 1st model will have two pin holding the trigger guard to frame. 2nd model will have a take down screw.

    Hello Anthony...

    Just to add a little to what pact correctly stated, the First Models all have case color hardened frames, and will be in serial number range 1 - 15,500. The First Model is more commonly referred to as the Solid Frame Model 1890, and is worth at least 2X what a similar condition Second Model is worth. Second Models can be either case color hardened (early), or blued (late).
