  A member of a Camaro/Trans Am forum I frequent has found a rifle from his great-grandfather's collection and he has no clue what it is.....I am stumped also....here's a link to his thread....any help would be greatly appreciated

  Wrong... the pics aren't showing but i managed to link to your sight. It is an Italian Vetterli-Vitalae 80/87/15 in 6.5X52mm Mannlicher-Carcano, a WW1 conversion of the earlier models.... lack of Carcanii in WW1 you see.... Swiss Vetterlis have a tubular magazine. Value about $100 give or take.. oh yeah, safety is debateable as it was a blackpowder gun sleeved and redone to a modern cartridge... hope this helps.
