Winchester 1895 "Crescent" Buttstock

Hi, I am soon to be a proud owner of a newly manufactured 1895 Winchester in 30-06! The only problem I have with it is that it has the flat "shotgun" style buttstock end. I have always preferred a "crescent" or concavely curved buttstock end. Is there anyway to modify the original stock without losing the original length? Since you'd have to drill into the end of the stock you lose a small amount of length, which might screw up my aiming or posture.

Or should I just have someone construct me a custom stock? I know some old guns have curved buttstocks, but I'd hate to have to purchase an entire (and expensive)antique gun just for that one part.

    Wait until You recieve your Rifle and shoot it a few times before You go spending a bunch of Money....You might be surprised to findout that the Shotgun Stock will spread the Shock of recoil better than a Cresent Butt Plate will....I've owned at least a dozen 95 Winchesters in my life....and shooting the 30-06 with it's 50,000 psi with a cresent Butt Plate Hurt like heck!...and the Shotgun Butt Plate cut the shock of recoil better...

    I have to agree with the good Capt... try shooting it first. The steel crescent buttplate used on the original Model 1895s was a killer on the shoulder... especially those that were chambered in 405 W.C.F.[B)][B)][}:)] (the 35 W.C.F. and 30-06 chambered 1895s were no fun either[B)]) I much much prefer shooting an 1895 that has a shotgun style buttplate on it[^]
