Danish Shotgun Info Needed - Pix Added
Need info on a a weird single shot shotgun. It has Danish proof marks. It is a light weight piece with raised comb and nice checkering. The barrel is part octagon going to round and is 27 1/2" long. The inside dia at the muzzle is .315. The rim dia of the cartridge, taken at the breech end of the barrel is .470. It is a smooth bore and I`m thinking 9MM, but, it is a center fire??? I thought 9mm shotshells were rimfire. Under the barrel it is stamped 8.2mm.
Anyone have any ideas?

Following is what I got back from the fella w/ the gun. Hope this helps pin things down.
"It has a straight chamber approx 2" long. I should take a casting of it and probably will. The action is a typical break open like all single barrel shotguns. The hammer is mounted in the center of the action rather than a side lock hammer. It has a side lever to open the breech. Appreciate any info you might have. Thanks"

Pix. follow, now let's see if we can get some solid info on what it may be. Owner said he spotted it on a rack at a gun show and for the price on it he was intrigued enough to buy it.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

sounds like a garden gun. what kind of action and hammer does it have? it could be a 32ga.

The bore diameter of a 32 gauge shotgun is almost exactly 1/2 inch.0 -

I have the exact same gun in my safe. My Dad received the gun from his Father back in the 40's. The only markings I can find on this gun is on the left side of the barrel just in front of the hammer.
They appear as: 2 gr NGPM
12 gr B
I would also love to get some more info on this gun.0 -

The proofs on your rifle/shotgun? are from Germany. They were used from the 1890's until the First World War.
"2 gr NGPM", is the weight of the proof charge in Grams.
"12 gr B", is the weight of the projectile in Grams.
As I have posted previously, these single shot rifles could have been reamed to smooth bores, or they might have "Metford" type rifleing which appears to be unrifled with just a cursory inspection.0 -

Since there is no manufacturers or retailers name on the rifle. I believe it was originally sold in the time frame, circa 1890 - 1910, as a inexpensive "stalking rifle", probably chambered for one of the common single shot rifle cartridges of that era, ( 8 x 42R & 8 x 51R ).
Because of this ( ammo is not available ), and not being made by a known manufacturer, I believe it doesn't have great value. It would be a wall hanger, and valued depending on cosmetic condition only. My WAG $200 - $400.0
