45 acp conversion kit to .22lr
My second best Friend has a 45 Kimber and is trying to decide if he should get a .22lr conversion kit to make his maddness at the range less expensive. What can you tell me about the conversion kits for Kimber?

there are several such kits for the 1911, any of which should work fine on the Kimber. I suspect that Ciener makes the one that Kimber and Wilson put their names on. It's an aluminum slide, very accurate, 1" groups at 25 yds,but I question how long it will keep delivering that accuracy, because a steel barrel is rubbing inside a hole in the front of the slide. Be sure to get an adjustable sighted model, because the fixed sights are made of aluminum, and are easily marred. I've owned a lot of the steel slide Colt 22-45 units over the years. I like the way that they have more recoil, due to their floating chamber, but they are out of production, $400, and the spare mags are $50 each, and many of the barrels and chambers are out of spec, and lead up solid in 100 rds or less.
The DAy unit is out of production. The KART was guaranteed to put 10 rds in 1.5" at 50 yds, on any 1911 frame. Jarvis makes a unit, but I know nothing of it.0 -
I believe MARVEL was rated as the most accurate conversion in an indepentant article I read. I also know this unit seems to be the most popular with the Bullseye group. I don't own one, but have fired several with great results. I believe the price for the best model is about $355. 0 -
Hello the MARVEL is a great unit the only thing I don't like about it is there is no auto slide hold back on fireing last round in mag and you should not dry fire a rimfire This means you must count rounds fired . The Kart is the best but hard to find. both will shoot better than most shooters and on par with selected ammo with the BEST target pistols . Added plus is 1911 frame so you can shoot 45ACP with same grip ,trigger ETC.The other brands shoot ok but not well enough for match shooting. 0 -
actually, that's not so, unless you are up against the world's best, using optical sights. 2/3rds of the National Match course is shot at 25 yds. X's only break ties. If I get 200 pts and NO X'S,I beat your 199 pts, with 19 xs. The 10 ring is 3.5" in diameter. If your .22 unit will group into 4" at 50 yds, which the Ciener will do, quite reliably, with ammo that it LIKES, and you do your part, you will win. You clean the 2 stages at 25 yds, and "only' get 98 out of 100 pts at 50 yds, that's a 298,which is a helluva score, with iron sights. 0 -

He's not looking to take on "the world's best" and try the NM course, he's looking for a plinking conversion. Do a Google search for "plinking", maybe they have it explained in a series of finger-paint drawings for you.

Thanks, Joey! [:D]0 -
up yours, bozo. The guy said that the Ciener units aren't accurate enough for match shooting. I explained that they ARE accurate enough,if YOU are. 0 -
Which post on this thread used the name Ciener other than every single one of yours and the one I'm writing now? 0 -

Gee guys. I asked for a little help for my second best friend Mr. Phatboy and then here comes expert kid Bison. Thanks Joey and Zerodin.
I think the flavor on the school bus is "sour grapes"[^]

The window flavor line was the best I read all day. I am still bouncing in my chair laughing about it. It will be stolen and incorporated into my sense of humor. [:D] 0
