6.8mm Remington SPC
I see Barrett is working on an AR type weapon chambered for the new 6.8mm Remington SPC cartride. Does anyone know if Barretts new upper will work with .223/5.56 cal loweres? The 6.8 Rem SPC looks to be the same lenght as the .223/5.556 round so I'm also wondering if it will use the .223 magazines - single stacked as the round is fatter. Barrett has very few details on their web page, but someone out there may know the amswer?

I have 'heard' that the new uppers will mount to the lowers having the correct pin configuration (small pin or large pin).
Each upper will have the bolt/extractor to function with the 6.8 round. The magazine will be different. It will have a different lip configuration for the size of the 6.8 case. The magazine will work within the magazine well of existing lowers.

The answer is yes, all you need is the upper and fit it to your lower. That's the point of this project in order to make it more desirable to the military. All they have to do (simply) is change out the uppers and issue the new ammunition.

Apparently Spec-Ops have been utilizing the cartridge for quite some time. I've yet to talk to any of them about whether they like them or not. Supposedly has the benefits of the 5.56 and the 7.62 NATO (I haven't checked the specs at all). Depending on field tests, I am sure it will be the replacement ammunition for the Military. Costs in the long run would be better if they went to one type of round.
