.32 ACP other than Win Silvertips

Does anyone have experience using ammo other than Winchester Silvertip in a Seecamp .32 acp?

Seecamp plasters their manual with warnings to only use Silvertips, but as you probably know they are pretty pricey.

Are there any cheaper viable alternatives?

For those who don't know this pistol, it's a tiny pocket semi auto. The silvertips use a short hollow point bullet, and these shorter rounds are the only thing that the pistol can feed. Thus, I suppose I'm looking for a more affordable round with a short .32acp bullet that I can use for target practice, as $28/box of 50 gets pretty expensive. If I ever used it for self defense (don't worry, this would be a last ditch backup to my .45, not a dueling piece), I would use the recommended silvertips, and I plan to practice with slivertips part of the time. I'm just looking to reduce the cost of practicing.

I don't have reloading equipment yet, and from what I hear, reloading these tiny rounds with fat fingers like mine is pretty difficult.

    My advice is to sell the seecamp, and get a Kel-Tec P32. It will feed anything including the Cor-Bon 60 grain 1000fps load (much more effective than silvertips) plus it shoots any cheap .32 ball you can find. Also it weighs less than the Seecamp. I wear one on my ankle almost everyday as a backup (or second backup) to a more formidable weapon. (The same gun also is now available in .380 but is very "UGLY" to shoot) All the brass hit me square in the forhead! Food for thought.

    I'd love to, but you get them in the People's Republic of Kalifornia. They haven't passed the state safety/drop tests.

    I chose the Seecamp because it suited my needs in most way other than the price of ammo, and if need be, I'll just "bite the bullet" [:D] and pay the price, but I was hoping someone here might know of an alternative ammo.

    Unfortunately, the Seecamp was engineered for the Silvertips as you already pointed out. I would stick with them unfortunately. Do you shoot that little Seecamp enough that the ammo cost is becoming an issue?

    That little guy isn't the most fun thing in the world to shoot, so I won't be shooting it so much that I can't afford enough ammo to stay in shape. It's not really an issue, so much as I was just curious if there was a more cost effective way to practice or if anyone else made a comparable round. Packing.org had a post saying that any .32 ACP ammo of similar total cartridge length would work and since I didn't know of any others I thought one of you might have some suggestions.

    If no other suggestions arise, I'll stick with the Silvertips at $.60 a round. I value that gun enough that I don't want to mess it up experimenting unless someone has had good results with something else. It just struck me as odd that such a small round was so expensive.

    Fiocchi SJHP 60 gr. might feed. It's worth a try if the lead won't leave alot of crud in the barrel. Cost you $10 to find out.

    Stick with the W-W Silver Tips. The firearm in question was designed for and around this particular round.

    If it can cut, kill or maim, I want two.

    doesn't matter, because none of them amount to enough more than a .22 to make any diff at all when you shoot somebody with them. Get a locked breech, DAO Keltec P3AT 380,and a Taurus PT22 to practice with, and you will be way ahead. The 380 is about 9 ozs, very small, too. $300 retail. So get rid of that Joke of a Seecamp, and move up in the world. Better yet, get somewhat larger pockets, if need be, and get a 9mm Kahr PM9. It's 15 ozs, 6" long, and has 5x the "power" of your .32. The 9mm is plenty feeble enough if you ever have to stop a man with pistolfire.

    I do not own a Seecamp myself but was shooting a short time ago with a friends and we ran a box of Speer Gold Dots through it and had zero issues. Whether they are any too much cheaper than the W-W Silvertips in your area...I couldn't say but they appear to be effective enough down range to be rated comparable if the price is right. As to if they are considered right for the Seecamp? I have heard no from a few sources but cannot argue with efficacy.

    theres really not much cheap 32ammo to buy anymore, the seacamp is ok I had one but was offered so much I sold it some time ago, they want more money for the 32ammo than 9mm,I'm carrying a 22mag ultra lite Taurus 8shot ....ammo runs $6 -$8 for 50 at wallmarts...did some tests and even out a 2" it packs a real punch,large blue flame & extra loud with Federal & some cheap Amsco I got at a gun show for $5 a box..punches a deep large hole thru wet phone books & sends gallon water jugs sailing into space....I dont miss the seacamp even though its a nice carry gun....ammo too expensive.....I think the 22mag is way under-rated,taurus-22mag -8shots-17oz its a great little revolver , paid $200 used at the gun show, its really nice........Billy
