Anyone have the ballistics on m855 ammo??

I am wanting the ballistics out to 500 meters on the IMI m855 ammo. 5.56x45 62 gr green tip, 3100 fps. I have never seen the ballistic coefficient in print.

I have checked the Nosler,Sierra and Black Hills websites for anything similiar and none of these companies list the 62 gr bullets..

I would appreciate a link or any pertinant info.

    You will have to straighten out the columes since this software won't.

    "NATO specifications for SS109 (U.S. M855) Ball require a 61.7 grain
    (q 1.5 grains) with a hardened steel penetrator at a velocity of 3,025 fps
    (q 40 fps) from a 20 inch barrel 25 meters from the muzzle. Typical
    velocity 15 feet from the M16A2's muzzle is around 3,100 fps. The accuracy
    requirement from a test fixture equates to a maximum of approximately four
    MOA over the 100 to 600 yard range. Typical accuracy of average lots in an
    M16A2 is about 2+ MOA. This round must also penetrate a nominal 10 gauge
    SAE 1010 or 1020 steel test plate at a range of at least 570 meters (623
    yards). The M193 round will penetrate this same plate reliably at 400
    yards, and about half the time at 500 yards. The 5.56mm and 7.62mm NATO
    rounds will penetrate it reliably out to 700 yards or more. Nominal
    ballistics for M193 and M855 Ball rounds are given in an accompanying
    table. The tables were constructed from the latest data supplied by the
    U.S. Army Ballistic Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground,
    Maryland.

    If you want to HIT men at such ranges, you need the 75-80gr vld slugs,and 1in 8 or 1in7 rifling twists, and a scope, trigger job,rangefinder and 24" barrel will be foundto be a big help. Military ammo is rarely more than "plinker-accurate", and ball ammo, in all calibers, is a poor manstopper.

    I am not sure where to start with you.......

    First of all, I am not in the habit of "hitting men" and was in need of this info for academic reasons.

    Second of all, If I was in the habit of "hitting men" I would use a real caliber, like a 30 cal for instance.All the other stuff you had was kinda moot and goes without saying.

    Also,Ball ammo, especially 30 caliber,is designed to flip over in a 180 degree direction to dump more energy into the target. This happens after approximately 3" of penetration.The Russians and U.S developed bullets for their service rifles with this in mind.This because we cannot use hollow points according to Hague and Geneva.Flamethrowers,yes.Hollowpoints,no.Go figure.Just letting you know.[;)]

    u r full of it. NO ball bullet, with the possible exception of the Russian .20AK, is "designed" to flip over in the target, and NO .30 cal bullet does so, with the possible exception of the Hirtenberger. The figures you are quoting are for the original 55 gr 223 bullet. Your "real loads", get their butts kicked by 223's at 600 yds, at Service Rifle matches, EVERY weekend. :-) If you "think" you are going to take a chest hit with such heavy bullet 223 loads, and do jack squat, you are just ignorant of the facts. If you take such a hit, you are done-for, pure and simple.

    I truly do not care WHAT you think of me OR what I say.
    But I will have to call you on just 1 of you inaccuracies.

    It is a fact that the design of ball ammo can, and in fact DO allow the bullet to flip upon penetration,therefore dumping more energy.As a matter of fact the ak-74 round can break in 2 pieces therefore creating 2 primary wound channels instead of the cusomary 1.
    I saw a bullet designer on A&E,I taped it as a matter of fact,State that they did in fact design bullets to do this.The segment is called "small arms,soft targets".[:D]

    As far as your crap about the efficacy of .223 rounds....Well, I guarantee that people who read your posts will learn quite a bit about your intelligence and knowledge.[;)][B)]
