Old Smith & Wesson
I came across an old s&w revolver today.............the frame says its a model 28 but its in 45LC...anyone have any ideas?

Yes I have one,it's a conversion.All 28s were .357s some were converted by changing the barrel and cylinder others by boring them out.Mine was bored out.

scrub the fouling stains off of front of cylinder, and carefully, with a magnifying glass and good light, look for the tell-tale "ring" of metal around the chambers, If none is seen, no reboring was done. 0 -
i don't know about the s&w, but i know colt put some of there 41's on the 357 frames in the 50's to save money on production. i would assume alot of companys were doing that at the time. kinda like the h&k usp, it's all about the barrels and mags except the 45. not only does it save money, it just wouldn't make sense to produce everything in different sizes unless you needed to. after typing that i see i didn't really help, but since i spent the time to type it, i'm posting it! cody

Elkhorn,when you say look for a ring of metal do you mean lining?
The one I have is bored out and not relined.
Ameriskin,Smith did not do what you suggest to the Mod.28.
