Mr. Christian and others, a question?

I was at a small trade days area in the mountains of KY where they have anything from flea market items, animals of all types, and guns. I looked at a Remington model 8 in 32 rimfire. I had to look twice at it because I did not know thatb they made the 8 in rimfire. It was made in 1909 and the owner had 12 boxes of 50 count 32 rimfire shells for sell with the rifle. He wanted $650 for the rifle and $12 a box for the ammo if you bought the rifle and all the ammo. Condition was what I would rate fair as to looks. What is that gun worth and is 32 rimfire a common caliber for a model 8 of that time period? Thanks for any input.

    The Remington Model 8 was NEVER factory made in ANY rimfire cartridge... it was a centerfire high-power rifle chambered for .25 Rem, .30 Rem, .32 Rem, and .35 Rem. only. I don't know what kind of a song and dance routine that fellow trying to pull off, but I would steer completely clear of him. Oh, and there is no possible way to convert a Model 8 to the 32 rimfire cartridge either.

    Ditto what Bert says here!! They never made the model 8 in rimfire and I doubt the possibility of converting it in ANY way to rimfire! The idea of that massive bolt slamming home on a rimfire is chilling?!?! All I can think of is he is confused on the diferencr between rimfire and.32 Remington. If that is the case I would doubt his ability to judge the value of what he has as well! Either a crook or a fool or both and assuming you are the later! Steer clear by all means. A Remington Model 8 in .32 Remington in FAIR condition for $650?!?! Not a good deal even if it was correct and in the correct cartridge.

    That is waht I thought and could not find a 32 rimfire in any gun value books for the model 8. I would have bought the 32 rimfire ammo because at $12 a box, I can make money. Yes I knew that $650 was way too high. I have a friend that has one in 35 rem and I would like to have one in 35 rem myself that is why this one caught my attention as I walked by. When he said it was 32 rimfire, the questions began to run through my head. I was just checking to make sure I had done my home work. Thanks for the answers.

    I forget the model but it strikes me that Remington made a '.32 rimfire' smoothbore, actually chambered for a 9mm rimfire shotshell... could this have been it?
