Canadian Gun Transfer

About 3 or 4 months ago I asked some advice on how to get a hunting rifle into Canada. No one seemed to know excatly what to do and most of the advice was all negative. Basicly everyone said forget it, too much trouble. And it seems several people have asked about doing this and never gave any details. I do not know the gents handle who gave most of the commits.
Well I did not follow the advice and found out what had to be done. Guess what, all of the folks out there were wrong. The Canadian officals could not have been nicer and answered all of my questions and gave me the phone numbers of who to contact. The US State department was equally as helpfull. There is a lot of paper work to fill out but if you take you time and follow the instructions everything will go well.     Just an update on my Canadian gun transfer. I got word that my Canadian friend received his rifle a few days ago. It took 42 days to get it to him. Canadian customs did open the package and inspect the rifle and paper work, so if anyone is thinking about sending or selling a firearm to a Canadian it will be inspected. 42 days is a long time but with patichents and some people skills the ordeal will go smothly. Remember you will be dealing with Goverment officals. It seems there job is to make more paper work for regular folks to contend with. This can be done, it just takes paper work and a lot of waiting.
    My Canadian friend had to pay $90.00 Canadian to pick up the firearm, I do not know what this was for but I will find out when I get back from my hunting trip with him this year.
    And MR. Christian this can be done, I did it, and it did not take me 2 years as you so pointed out to me that it would. The Canadian people could not have been more helpful, again you were wrong on this point. Everything was done legaly, no behind the dooor deals. Have you even shipped a firearm to Canada? Please do not discourage people from legealy doing business in Canada. If I would have listen to your advice I would not have got my deal done.

    First off sir no where in my post from 26 June, 2003 did I tell you that this could not be done, merely that it would take time and could often drag out FOREVER. Well 42 days is not forever but it is quite a while. I URGE that you to reread our first posting and show me where I told you that this type of transaction would take 2 years to accomplish. NO WHERE did I say this, I simply told you that this was an involved process and one which most people feel is too difficult for them to expend time on. I am happy that things worked out for you but do not put words into my mouth. I spelled out to you in great detail what the export process for firearms is and all of that information wass based on my own experiences in the firearms industry as a dealer and having done many imports and exports. At no time did I ever tell you not to follow through with your plan, I simply said it would be time consuming and most folks give up...bully for you and your strong will to follow through. This topic from 26 June has been locked out but it can still be viewed in the archives and do not think for a moment that I do not remember you and did not make a note of the specific date on which we "spoke" in this forum for future reference.
