Spanish Mauser
I have a spanish mauser serial # 2126.What year was it made??Iwould say it is in about 80 percent condition or better.

I have a real nice Spanish mauser I bought at a show. The only thing wrong with it it has a turned down bolt handle. I.v seen a few spanish mausers and they all had a straight bolt handle. The bolt functions well but I don't want to shoot it for fear something bad might happen.I'm looking for advice, because I sure would like to shoot it. Thanks 0 -
The rifles you saw were probably either Spanish Model FR-7 or Fr-8 rifles.
They were conversions of the earlier produced Spanish Mausers, ( Model 1893), ( Model 1916) & ( Model 1943).
They were rebarreled to 7.62 x 51mm, 18 1/2" Barrel, Rotating-disc rear sight, Integral Grenade Launcher, etc.,etc.
They were produced at approximately the same time frame as the CETME was being adopted as the standard rifle of the Spanish military.

that sounds right on the money. first I didn't wanted to buy one since they look as if some punk modified them just for fun.
when you examine them closely, they feel as an almoast modern rifle and the flash hider looks god too.

It would be advisable if possible, to buy a FR-8 rather then a FR-7, as the -8 is based on the Model 1943 Short Rifle with a 1898 pattern Mauser action, ( stronger and better able to handle high pressure loads ).0 -

Dallas-When they were tooling up for the Cetme they used the FR series as an intermediate stop-gap rifle and intended to put them in reserve for possible future use. As they were roughly done about the same time as tool up for the cetme, they actually used a lot of the same parts on both rifles...the sight system, the flash hider etc. as this made them applicable as a training rifle so the transistion to the Cetme would be made easier for the average ecruit. That doesn't add much to what Rufe said but is, I think, an interesting little tid-bit! As Rufe said, get the FR-8 as it is indeed much stronger!
