My Remington wont cycle light shells

i have a Remington 1187 supermag. it is a great gun and i love to shoot it. i recently went to a clay pigeon shoot and decided to take it. it wouldnt cycle my shells. they are 2 3/4, 7/8 ounce shells. is there any way i can adjust it to take these shells?

    Not sure about the adjustment, but try at least 1oz loads.

    MAKE SURE THE BARREL PORTS ARE CLEAN.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    I have an 1187 Supermag Special Purpose Turkey. It says on the barrel, "Not intended for Light Target Loads". Mine will cycle 3 1/4 dram 1 1/4 oz. loads. The instruction manual also talks about a barrel seal activator needing to be in place for 2 3/4 inch shells. Try www.remington.com for more info.

    Replace the O ring seal if this and cleaning barrel port doesn't work you will have to use heavier loads. One gun can't do all things .

    your gun is not designed to handle tha light of load , use some thing a little heavier and you shouldn't have any problems

    I was told by Remington back in 2002 that the minimum
    load the Super Mag would reliably function with was a 3 dram,
    1-1/8 oz. load.

    I believe that almost all of the Remington 1187's have problems with light loads. I had an 1187 Premier (3" gun) and tried to shoot trap with it. Would not cycle. I do a little work with shotguns (porting etc.) and we tried everything from totally dismantling and cleaning to changing gas rings and nothing helped. A good friend of of mine is the gunsmith for a Remington Authorized Repair Center and he told me the only other thing we could do is drill the gas ports in the barrel slightly bigger. However, that is a dangerous game if you intend to shoot the heavier loads.

    thanks for all the help. i guess i will just have to try heavier loads. i have already replaced the seal and it is a brand new barrel because my old one broke off. thanks again guys.

    You might try Sellier & Bellot Sporting Clays loads. I think they are 1 -1/8oz. and 3 1/4 dram. In my browning O/U they definately have a snap to them. They are relatively inexpensive. Cabelas carries them. Most guys buy one case and decide that's enough of that, but should cycle yours pretty well.
