Refinish Advice

I have a Western Auto .22lr model 150. I am in the process of trying to refinish it. The stock and forearm I have already sanded and filled in the small dents that were in it but my problem is the receiver. It does not seem to have any deep scratches or gouges but the black finish is coming off. I know the barrel can be reblued, but what do I use on the receiver? (looks like some sort of baked enamel, not sure what is supposed to be on it) Any help would be greatly appreciated, please email me at: jeffsfirearms@aol.com

    if the reciever is aluminum, it cannot be blued. i have an ITHACA MODEL 49 .22 single shot rifle that also has an aluminum reciever. i used a high gloss engine block paint in its rebuild / refinish.

    you can have the BBL blued, and paint the reciever yourself. many .22 rimfire rifles, especialy the semi-autos have aluminum recievers. god luck, post pics. best regards, mike.

    Up here in Canada, we usually have alloy receivers black-chromed or Teflon coated. I don't know what the industry standard is on this but it works well on my own guns. I have yet to try anodizing so I can't comment on that, but I have also had the receiver on a freebie over-under 12ga nickel-plated. It provided a nice contrast to the blued barrels.
