romanian ak-47 folding stocks
I have seen alot of romanian ak-47 folding stocks for sale that don't say they that they are welded shut or anything like that. they also say that they don't include mounting screws. But i was wondering if they would fit new pre-ban ak-47's even though it would still be illegal.

The standard AK underfolding stocks mandate the use of a special receiver which has the back enclosed rather than open to accept the typical fixed stock. To install an underfolder you'd need to close up this opening with a cover plate and then drill your receiver to accept the components of the under folding stock, a tricky operation! The East German side folders install as a direct replacements for the standard fixed butt stock and these side folders are the ones which you typically see welded in the open position on certian post ban AK types.

the one i have one my romanian(put on after the death of the ban)is a romanian sidefolder and mounts on where the wood stock was, simply use the screws out of your stock and your set

ACE folding stocks work and they are american made. [8D]

This is an example of a typical Romanian side folding stock, in this case it was fitted to one of my Eqyptian AKMs. These are direct replacements for the fixed wood butt stock, just remove the old stock and slide in the folder...if you can remove the two butt stock retaining screws you can install this stock! Some of these (though not this one) are locked/welded in the open position and may be impossible to actually fold.

I'm guessing that you are actually asking, can you shot the ak without a shoulder stock? Or you are asking, can you shot it when the folding stock is folded?
Yes and yes. Not sure why you would fire it without a stock as you would have a large hole in the rear which is not good for alot of reasons(One of which is the it would be against the law). Shooting an ak with the side folder folded is meant for close range shooting only. Say, clearing a building or something like that.
BTW Iraqes have been reportedly shooting at our boy's in uniform at mid to long distances with their stocks folded. This has little to no effect. P!$$ poor training. Bad for them, Good for us.[8D].......Kinda like Blue Hairs. Bad for driving, good for garage sales.

I have seen the Romanian side folders lately, offered by the same company, both welded and not. Those that are welded sell for about $15 less than the original ones, and say "restorable". That is, you could probably cut through the weld and get them to work. I ordered a couple to see how easy the restoration is.

Here's a pic of the Romanian stock folded on my Wasr10.
I think it's one of better systems out there. I have the Ace Folder on my Sar1 and am 50/50 on it. It's definately a better platform for cheek weld compared to the Romanian, the folding mechanism doesn't work as easily.

Just to show that is does indeed fold, here is another photo of my own Egyptian AKM with its stock folded along with a Yugoslavian AKM undefolder.
