Winchester mdl 255 lever 22 mag.
Have a winchester mdl 255 lever in 22 mag. They made them from the mid sixities till the mid seventies. Does anyone have any experince with these? How are they? How well do they shoot. Gun looks like it's never been shot.

HAVE HAD SEVERAL THROUGH THE YEARS. LIKE THE 9422M MUCH BETTER.

Good gun, very easy to shoot well, be sure when cleaning it to get all grit inside the action removed, or the top of the bolt will start to wear away, and it will start to "hang" in mid-lever.

I just had a 255 given to me a few weeks ago. I received it in about 15 pieces all packaged in Zip-Lock bags. After I re-assembled it I found the problem...just like gunnut505 said, the top portion inside the receiver(alloy) was worn out and therefore was not locking-up properly. Since it is already wore beyond the point of useability I may try having it spray-welded then re-machine the lock-up lug to gat it working. It was a freebie so it's worth a try. 0
