Colt 45 Auto- .22lr conversion kit problem

Hi,
Brand new to forum. I have a .22lr conversion kit for my .45 auto. Everything is okay except it doesn't fire. Oops. The firing pin doesn't imprint the rim. Does anyone know the proper length for the .22 firing pin. I've cleaned it so sticking isn't a problem. Colt is no help they say it's too old; does anyone have a suggestion. Thanks Pete

    Found the problem. The correct length is 2 5/16 or 2.3125; mine was the correct length. However after 30 years of cocked & locked the spring was too weak to fire rimfire, it still cycles .45 fine but my guess is that may be marginal also. Colt didn't have a clue so they referred me to Pittsburgh gun, Rosemary there really knows her stuff, they spent quite a bit of time helping me and refused my offer to pay for their time. I rag when someone screws me so I thought I'd give an atta-boy/girl to them for being pros. thanks Pete

    Hello 2.3125 is correct . Colt should have fireing pins in stock as all 22 conversions except the first model ACE are the same or you can try BROWNELL. I have never seen a spring strong enought to fire 45 but not 22 however it could happen.

    Colt's site doesn't show the .22 unit or the Ace at all. I believe that they sold all such parts to Numrich Arms Corp. Many .22's, espeically pistols with externaly hammers, get dryfired a lot, especially those whose slide latch soon quits locking back the slide on an empty mag. Carefully look for a battered tip on the firing pin, and a"chewed up" rear shoulder around the chamber.
