Colt 38 Auto AMU mags
Anyone know of a source to buy magazines for a colt 38 automatic, AMU? Its not a "Super" so it doesnt use that kind of magazine, nor is it a true AMU rimless cartridge that gets fired so it doesnt use that kind of magazine(not that I've seen one). The magazine looks similer to a S&W model 41 mag,(except bigger of course) in that it has the spring guide in the middle to push down on for easier loading of bullets into the mag, and "38 Special" printed on the bottom of the mag. I found a guy at a local gun show who sold them new and were manufactured in Spain or Argentina I think he said. Like an idiot though I did not place the box the mag came in nor his business card in a safe place and the wife, well...you know the rest. SO, somebody does manufacture them still.

The mags for the 38 AMU were modifided by ARMY MARKSMANSHIP UNIT "AMU" but the mags for the 38 midrange gold - cup that have 38 special on the bottom will work . what are your slide marking ? allmost all amu slides were changed to shoot 38 special if yours has not it would be collector ITEM. 0 -
yes, the mags with the 38 special printed on the bottom are the only ones that work. I'm trying to find an online source to buy more. Know of any? I'm going to take pictures this weekend and post here. 0 -
There are a number of scorces you might want to try Gil Hebard but ask for 38 special midrange GOLD CUP mag they aint cheap if your slide has not been opened up you will have to shoot 38 amu ammo the last of that I saw was $100.00 per box. if slide is opened it will take 38 special it will only take flush mounted wad cutter. Good luck Karl 0 -
