The M4 survival rifle (NSN 1005-00-575-0070) is a .22 Hornet, bolt action rifle using a 5 round box magazine and has a collapsible wire stock, which looks a bit like the stock found on the M3/M3A1 submachineguns, and a wire loop-type pistol grip. The 13.75" barrel on the M4 can be removed for packing purposes and the entire rifle weighs around 4 pounds. H&R was the lead manufacturer for these rifles as well as the M6 which was a combination rifle/OU .410 shotgun. You don't see these M4 rifles around very often since these remain in service with the US Air Force (although no new M6 rifles have been odered in many years so those in inventory must be getting pretty well worn by now). Although these survival rifles fall under the preview of the National Firearms Act due to their short barrels, there are some US Property examples in private hands which were registered during the 1968 ammnesty don't ask where they came from or how they left the Air Force!). Not too many folks know much about these Air Force survival rifles, but I happen to like them and find them very interesting...as well as lots of other odd-ball US military weapons!

I've seen 3 of the H&R M4 Survival rifles up here in Canada in the last year or so. With the new laws we have most of them are being destroyed. If you are successful in finding one up here and are able to talk the owner into selling it, they seem to typically be trading in the $100-150 CDN range($60-100 USD) 0 -
That's a steal. They are easily worth $300 US, even if they weren't covered by the 1934 Firearms act. 0
