C@R License

How old does a gun have to be to be able to buy it with a C@R license.
Would a Model 88 made in 1961 be legal to use the C@R on ?

    General rule of thumb states 50+ years old or older, with the exception of the ones listed as special dispensation. As the rules apply, a 43 year old Winchester will just not make the list in my opinion.

    The Winchester Model 88 carbines in .243, .284, .308, or .358 and all Model 88 rifles are specifically listed and do not have to be 50 years old to qualify. They are C&R firearms.

    D&D...seems like I'm saying"sorry" too often of late! I looked it up and lo and behold, according to my 2003 book you appear to be correct! This whole thing is cunfusing!!

    One more detail I discovered -- according to letters sent by the BATFE itself in response to inquiries, a C&R is not considered by the BATFE to be a "business" -- and only licensees who are businesses are required to turn in their bound books when they stop doing business or have their FFL revoked.

    So while we all are required to keep bound books for the duration of our activities in case the BATFE drops in for inspection, the FFL 03 C&R will not have to send his bound book to the BATFE if and when he "retires" his licensed activities and stops renewing his license -- while the FFL 01 (dealer) and 02 (pawnbroker) will have to turn in their bound books some day.
