45 Ejection Port

Hey guys, I have an old model 45 1911 acp, that is a great shooter, and I am thinking about lowering and flaring the ejection port, to get a little better eject on the fired shells. Every once in a while, it will "hang up" when it tries to eject the shell, and it gets caught between the barrel, and the slide comming forward. My question is, how much to lower the port, and how much to flare it, to help this problem?
Other than that, it is a great shooter, and I shoot it quite a bit.

    Hello do you have the use of a good set of either MICrometers or dial calipers? The first lowered and flared ejection port was on colt GOLD-CUP when this was done it was now "LEGAL" for N.R.A. matches as well as DCM / CMP matches you can go with the same size on any 1911 slide.If you don't want to start grinding on you slide the easier fix is to get an extended ejector from BROWNELL you can put this in and all ways go back to org. If you grind and later find you have a collectable slide LIKE A SINGER etc you will be up the creek.

    perry...yep..its one of the reasons i stopped shooting dcm matches after i went distinguished. everyone whined and wanted all the bells and whisltes in thier guns because they couldnt shoot milspec guns! soon, it was no longer about talent, it was about technology. big barn...take perrys advice. cut that slide as a last resort. sometimes stovepiping is a simple slide spring tension, weak load, or mag problem. check them first.

    IMHO; I'd buy all of that! What you describe has happened to me if I shoot ammo that is not the same loading. ie: gun is set-up for an operating pressure above a certain point, and a handload has a slight variation. This CAN cause an intermittent 'stovepipe'.

    Thanks guys, I will take your adviceings first, too see if that will help or eliminate the problem. Slide will be a last resort, and seeing as how I am no "Expert", after that, if the problem still exist's, I will be off to my gunsmith, for some help. The only drawback to that is, the closests gunsmith is two hours away. Part of BS living in the boonies!

    Hello BOBSKI not only does every one want BELLS and WISILS you can shoot a^*&$ 9 MM. Hand load your own ammo and even shoot a 22rimfire if a junior. what ever happened to issure ammo on the line. Been to Perry 32 years BUT . sorry about the soap box BIG BARN good luck Karl.

    Is there a milspec comp anywhere ?
    If not, There should be.
    A few of us at the range do that informally and have a spittin-good time. Most of us are not big time Hi-mod shooters, but do well enough with what is considered 'mil spec'. If one was to just get started, I think enough interest may be there to support a comp.
