Help ID 22 Auto Ranger Rifle looks like Garand
I'm trying to identify the maker of a .22 semi-auto rifle.
It looks like it was supposed to be a kind of M-1 Garand copy. It is only marked RANGER 101.16.
It is tube fed from the front, has plastic triggerguard, checkered metal buttplate and 8 vertical slots on the left side of the receiver.
I have checked numrich arms (gun parts corp) cross reference and 25th anniv blue book but haven't figured it out yet. I need to know because I need to get front and rear sights for it.
Barrel has dovetail in front and a slot with a single tapped hole towards the front of the slot in the rear. Also has 2 holes about 2 3/8 inches apart on the left rear of the receiver-for scope mount I think.
I can email pictures if you think you can help. Am willing to buy sights or scope mount if you have them laying around and can ID. You guy have helped me in the past and I would appreciate your expertise once again.

Following are photo's sent to me.
Ranger is one of the Sears Brands, but there is no cross-reference for 101.16 under Ranger, however there is a cross for a Sears 101.16 to a Savage Model 6 and/or Savage Model 87. I have a catalog that provides a picture of the Model 6 and it's not the same rifle, but I can't locate anything on the Model 87.
Stevens/Savage manufactured a tremendous amount of rifles and shotguns under contract. A common reference to these guns is "hardware gun" and it is sometimes really difficult to track down the specific parent model. But we have a couple members that are really experienced in this area and hopefully they will catch this posting.

Duh! This aging stuff isn't all it's cracked up to be. All I had to do is let the fog clear and remember to check Stevens and ta da, there it is ... the Stevens Model 87!!!!

That left side vent near the bolt head is distinctive of only 1 manfacture (but I can't remember who). Your cross referance chart couldn't come up with somthing under the "Sears" crossover section? I believe it was Sears that sold the "Ranger" and that sure looks like a Sears #.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
I think the 87 was the Springfield name used on several Stevens trade named guns. Throwing in the Sears thing makes it even more confusing I suppose!

I think its an H&R. Look for the cross ref for a gun called THE GENERAL
