First off let me welcome you to Gun Broker and the gun collecting hobby and please make yourself at home here! We have on our boards some SERIOUS S&W collectors and if a serial number was provided they could no doubt identify the exact date your M10 was produced. The 10-5 was the fifth engineering change to the Model 10 (previously called the Military & Police up until 1957) and went into effect in around 1962. This production changed involved the elimination of one of the screws in front of the trigger as well as an increase in the height of the front sight. There were no other engineering changes of note to the Model 10 until 1977 when the 10-6 was introduced so your pistol falls somewhere within that 15 year range. These Model 10s were always considered top quality pistols and for decades were the sidearm of choice for countless police officers across the United States and around the world.
