    It is a sporterized version of a Kar 98AZ made at Erfurt.

    It looks like the original flat bolt handle so thats a small plus.

    $100-$150 in it's present condition. You may get more from someone who doesn't know any better.

    You have a German military WW1 Model 98 Mauser, most likley chambered in the original 8X57.It was produced at the Eurfert Arsenal in 1916.Unfortunatley someone has altered the original military stock in an attempt to make a sporter. I'll let someone else throw out a value...to me it has almost none.

    Here is some aditional information regarding an original:

    DESCRIPTION: German World War One carbine (short rifle) in all original condition! The carbine is marked on the receiver: "Crown, Erfurt 1917". Small Prussian eagle is stamped on the left side of the receiver. No provision for the cleaning rod. Matching serial numbers except for the follower and front trigger guard's screw (matching serial numbers are stamped on the receiver, bolt, stock, buttplate, magazine floor plate, trigger guard, both barrel bands, stacking hook, bolt release, rear trigger guard's screw, front and rear sights). The bolt has all matching numbers (extractor, cocking piece, bolt handle and safety). The front trigger guard's screw shows different number, with a Nazi eagle, and seems to be a Nazi period replacement. The number on the magazine floor plate has one digit restamped (covered with patina, looks legitimate). All other serial numbers are legitimate, and they were not restamped. Correct, 98AZ bolt with Gothic proofs. Late style stock with a finger groove in the forestock and with the bolt disassembly disc in the buttstock. Complete with original, German World War One period muzzle cover. The latter displays a Crown over Gothic letter "D". CONDITION: Fine. 65% of thin blue still on the metal. The blue is turning to brownish color. Some light patina on the trigger guard, magazine floor plate and on the front barrel band. Some metal roughness on the receiver caused by surface rust. All the internal parts of the carbine are in fine condition. Solid stock in original finish with usual handling marks, dings and scratches. The World War Two era duffel bag cut under the rear band (not visible without removing the barrel band). There is a crack in the back of the handguard, extending from the rear sight to the receiver (please, see pictures). All the Gothic proofs are clearly visible on the stock. Bore is in excellent condition with strong and shiny rifling! No import markings. Nice, original German World War One issue carbine!
