Python Frame Marks

Don't know what else to call them. About an inch below the left raised hoof of the colt on the left side of the frame is a very tiny letter "N". Parallel to that mark but forward about two inches is the letter "P" inside a triangle. This marking, too, is very, very tiny. What is the significance of these marks. I tried a search under every variation of "Python", Frame Marks", Proof Marks", etc. but came up empty. Anyone?

  The triangle P is really a VP. All Colts are stamped for "verified proof", usually near the triggerguard.
  You got me on the N. An internal factory code telling finish or something?
