41 Action Express
After looking at the post about Tanfoglio pistols, I looked at our own auctions here and found an auction for a witness pistol in 41A.E. I have never seen these before, and I noticed there are no ads for this ammo on the auction. Is this still available? How does it rate compared to other cartridges?

The 41ae is a very good cartridge it just did not take off. The S&W .40 over shadowed it. There is ammo for it out there you just have to look for it and then plan to reload to keep the cost down. If you want a good EAA witness with power look at the 10mm. My 2 cents [8D]

41AE is one of the best cartridges ever designed.
has the power of a 40 w/o the recoil.
Recoil is like that of a 9mm.
A Bottle neck cartridge having the advantage of better feeding, extraction, and index off the shoulder, not case mouth.
Easily converted to a 9mm, and or 40.
One of my favorite cartridges, as I'm making a cistom CZ PCR in 41AE for my pocket pistol.

G&G, The 41AE isn't bottlenecked. It has a rebated(reduced diameter) rim so it can operate with a 9mm slide. 0 -
v35,
As I sent it, got a funny feeling that something was wrong, but didn't reread it.
Thanks for "making it right".
Did just buy about 7 Trounds of different calibers, and a special display model. Still feel the goosebumps.

The .41 AE was a GREAT idea that I wish had gotten off the ground. The gunmakers wouldn't have it, and so pushed the .40 and the 10mm and overshadowed it.
Imagine it...a drop in barrel and magazine conversion to convert just about ANY 9mm pistol to a big bore.
No way the gun makers would allow that.

"...no ads for this ammo..." That's because anybody who has the pistol and some brass isn't selling any. IMI stopped making it years ago and will not make any more unless there's a huge order(like 1,000,000 rounds) for it. Rumour has it that IMI is busy making ammo for your military.
However, this guy apparently has expressed an interest in making some brass. www.handgun-brass.com Send him an e-mail.
So what it boils down to is don't touch it unless you have brass or ammo. At any price. There's little ammo or brass available.
I'm extremely happy I bought 500 cases when I bought the barrel for my HP. The felt recoil is nothing like a 9mm though.
In my HP, you really have to hang on solidly or it'll jam every time. The recoil doesn't hurt but is much faster than the 9mm and if you don't lock your wrist, and hold it locked, it'll jam. It's nothing like a 9mm at all. The conversion requires a heavier recoil spring too. No big deal. Wolfe makes 'em. You can modify the 9mm mag to feed the .41 with no problem, but that mag will not feed 9mm. The lips will be a bit wider. Finding inexpensive bullets is a challenge too. It uses the same .410 bullet as the .41 Mag. While the .41 mag is still around, inexpensive, easy to find, cast bullets are not. At least not up here.
Sadly, like so many other firearm related things, the .41 was crushed by NIH. Not Invented Here.0 -
You can order cast bullets from North East Bullet Co in Waterboro,Maine 207-247-3243. Tell him Art from Eagle Guns gave you the phone number.
