flintlock replacement
I have a kentucky rifle repro made by pedersoli--it is an older version of the one currently being sold by cabelas. I am looking to make the rifle into a project gun and would like to replace the original flintlock with a more fucntional one. Does anyone out there have any suggestions as to what kind of lock would fit with the least amount of inletting???

L&R makes a lock that will fit right into the same place with little or more likely no inletting involved. Post a picture of the lock and the length/width. I can tell you which one it would be from that. Siler also makes one. And even easier way to find out is contact any of the 3 below links and ask them. They will have it in stock.

Hope these help. By the way a L&R lock will be in the $100 range but well worth it IMHO.

By "More functional" I meant another replacement flintlock with a faster more positive strike. The pedersoli lock is either very worn out (I bought the rifle used) or just not of especially high quality--something I have run into time to time with other replica blackpowder italian pieces.

Your frizzen may need hardening. Many of them came on the rifles too soft to be of much service.
