Progressive Press For Pistol Reloading Help?
Hello: I'm back again. This time researching progressive reloading presses for pistol ammo. I've reloaded thousands of rounds with a 12 Gauge Mec 650; and honed my reloading skill on my RCBS Rock Chucker. I'm interested in getting some help on a progressive machine for reloading 38, 9mm, and 44 mag ammo. I'm familiar with the RCBS style dies, so there is some leaning toward RCBS. I'm not looking for state of the art (I don't need an automatic case feeder); but want quality. If you folks could give me an experienced hand, I would appreciate it.

One word: DILLON
Dies are a standard item; they are all 7/8-14 OD thread, they all work pretty much the same way although different makers have their own variations. I use RCBS (and other) dies in my Dillon all the time.
Dillon's products are well designed (I've known many people who were unhappy with RCBS' progressive machines) and the customer service is second to none in any field. If something breaks, you call, it's on its way to you within 24 hours. Doesn't matter if *YOU* broke it by doing something stupid, the machine has loaded two million rounds and the part broke from old age / metal fatigue, the replacement is on its way, no charge.
Need help? Call (toll free) and their tech people will walk you through it.
Quality? As good as it gets.
Price? Admittedly high - you can save money buying a used machine off an auction site (which is what I did) . . . and the warranty / customer service is the same as if you bought it new yesterday.
Resale value? Eighty percent or better because of the Dillon warranty / customer service.
I loaded hundreds of thousands of rounds on a RockChucker and still use it a lot, but I wish I had invested in a Dillon long before I did. Rates of 500 - 1,000 rounds an hour, without compromising safety or quality, is a mighty good way to go.

If you look at Dillon...and well you should.....the 2 you'll cosider are the Square Deal B and the 550b.I have no idea what the b stands for.:)
The Square Deal is pistol only and takes special dies,but is auto advancing and turns out great rounds.
The 550's like mine will do rifle,has better visibility when working,and takes all makes of dies.Having to manually advance it is very simple and easy to get used to.
The roller handle is ok but I woulnd't buy it again.I have no use for the Strong mOunts as I made my bench high enough to begin with.ymmv.
It takes a few minutes to switch the primer slides from small to large,but not a biggie,imho.

Hornady Lock-n-Load. Not as expensive as the Dillon, and just as good customer service. Both press manufactures have their good ponits. Choose the one with the best, and most features.
Hornady Lock-n-Load was my choice, and i have never regretted. Matter of fact, I bought a new single stage Lock-n-Load also.[:)]0 -
Things to look for on a progressive press are; the cost and interchangeability of shell plates, also things like how the powder is metered to the case and how the linkage is hooked up.
A few years back a friend of mine was looking at buying a Dillon machine and Hornady had just come out with thier new progressive machine. I suggested that before he made the jump at Dillon to at least take the time to look at the Hornady. He bought the Hornady in the end and is very satisfied with it.
