10mm Contender
I have a 10" barrel I'd like rechambered to .401 Herter Powermag.It's like a 10mm mag(slightly longer)with a rim.Anyone got any ideas who would do this?

Boy ... there's a cartridge from the past. I owned a Herters Power Mag. my what a boomer, and it was pretty darn accurate too.
Anyway back to the question ... have you tried one of the "Big 3" (E.A. Brown, Virgin Valley, Bullberry) or talked with T/C's custom shop, Fox Ridge????
You may have one heck of quest on your hands. Me I'd like one for the oddity value ... got several of those. But having shot a fair amount of 10MM from both 10 and 14 inch barrels I think the 10 in side by side comparison would come out a little ahead. Of course I have shot a power mag cart. in close to 35 years. As I recall I traded the Herters for a Ruger Blackhawk in 71 or 72.

Contender Man this is from the Accurate Arms Loading Manual.It may change your mind about the power of the .401.I have two of the Herter .401s one of them remains unfired.

This is kind of an aside to your post but thank you for the info!! I have a .401 Herters Powermag cartridge in my collection and have been told everything from "it is like a lower powered 40 S&W" to "it makes a 10mm look anemic"! I'm really glad you clarified this whole deal for me. Cartridges of the World didn't make it too clear in my view but the reloading info I understand! Thanks again guys!

Not bad recall for 30+ years of not having fired the Pwr. Mag., just got the performance reversed. Hell to get old[:D]
Regardless if you find a place to do the work, please keep me in mind as I would certainly consider getting one of my 10mm converted.

Might just be easier to go to 10mm magnum. I have a friend who made up a barrel just to get arround a silly ohio 1" long hunting cartridge rule. It is a real powerhouse. ballistically identical to a 41 mag.
