The Weatherby outperforms the Ultra by AT LEAST 7,000 percent. Since I'm the only "expert" responding, I guess nobody has any numbers - muzzle velocity and energy, 500 yard velocity and energy - to prove me wrong!!

But then, I'm no expert.

I would say that "real world velocity" figures would give the RUM a 200-300fps advantage.

why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

they are both GREAT cartridges but the ultra mag kicks a$$

if i had more tiome i would show you all more but i dont have time so ... the winner for NOW is the ultra mag ... that could change tomorrow though

as far as bullet drop .. i am not sure but i will post it tomorrow if that is what you would like .

Strongly suggest you double check, then triple check the Remington catalog.
No make that catalogs.
Then check ballistics tables.
Then check barrel lengths.
Then check the type of barrels used.
Then compare their down spec'd loads to other manufactures.

In their sales literature they WRONGLY compared cartridges of the 300 Rummy, and the 7mm "Rummy". My name for the Rem Ultras.

Strongly suffers from Pinnochiotis. Just remember why his nose grew.

Here is some real world information from real world shooters. No innuendo here, just fact:

Or...use Lost River Ballistic's more solidly constructed 160 grain bullet with its .715 BC.
As of 2 days ago I finally have a properly twisted and chambered barrel that shoots them into 1/2 moa vertical group size at 500 and 700 yards. Won't be able to try them at 900 yards until after my deer season which starts tomorrow.

Anyway, 7mm Ultra at 3,450 fps from a 30 inch Hart stainless, 7 twist barrel. At an elevation of 8,000 feet and a range of 1,000 yards energy is still 2,140 ft/lbs. That's about the same as a 30/06 at 2 or 3 hundred yards. I think that will work quite well. The reduced drift from wind should be awesome. Computes to only 29 inches for 10 mph sidewind at 1,000 yards. My very small amount of experience tells me wind drift is the limiting factor for long range first-shot kills.

Does anyone have any load suggestions for the 7mm RUM with the Scirocco 150gr. bullet in a 28" barrel? Is there any experience with Vihtavouri high energy powders (eg N560) for this load? Are there any better suggestions for deer hunting loads for the 7mm RUM? Thanks,

I just ran some 140 X's over the Oehler for a guy at the range, they were 3750-3800fps, can't remember the load though. His was a Rem700 26".

My best shooting load is 95 gr RL 25 with a 140gr Nosler Ballistic Tip for 3460fps and shoots in the .3 at 100yds. But I think this bullet is not constructed strong enough for the velocity. Shot an Antelope at 250 and it made a 6" entry wound and didn't exit. Hit a Mule Der at 300 and it made about a 5" entry wound and about a 1" exit wound. Both died instantly but I thing the bullet is breaking up. I wouldn't use on anything bigger. Going to try partician 140's.

also consider this when using corporately provided balistics data,..

weatherby freebore allows for increased muzzel velocity as the bullet has a running start at the bore. Secondly,..weatherby factory ammunition is a MAX load of imr7828. The lack of bullet/land contact allows the use of the max load while showing no signs of pressure. remington factory ammo is usually considerably downloaded, not to mention they use 24" barrels to test loads where as weatherby uses a 26" barrel. Once the freebore is removed in a custom weatherby chambering, and the loads are kept at acceptable pressures, the factory data soon becomes "over rated". Over a chronograph,..the RUM out of a 26" barrel will show it's true colors as the top dog in big magnums. I have worked with the 7mmRUM, 300RUM, and 338RUM and can say they are all VERY impressive in terms of power and velocity.
