Dan Wesson 357 Cylinder/Hammer glitch

    Ok, open the cylinder and locate the pawl, it's behind where the cylinder would be in the recoil face, it will move up and doen as you cock the hammer and ease it down. Try pressing on it (the pawl) to check for spring pressure, spring may be weak or broken.
    Anything other than that would require a certified smith to diagnose, such as hammer,pawl cam surface wear.

    Check for an appropriate cylinder gap first.

    As both said, but I go along with v35. There should be a cylinder gap gauge with the pistol (or use a feeler gauge of appropriate size) and check more than one spot on the cylinder when you set the clearance. Might be a rough/high spot.
