colt 1911, .45 barrel
Hi guy's, Stupid question time. I bought a 1911, .45 complete slide with 5" barrel from new rock island. when it arrived all parts were new, but the barrel looks quite old and has no rifleing through the barrel. it is smooth all the way through. this is the description of the slide and barrel i was given in the advert,
flared and lowered ejection port
EMS precission laser programed to exact tollerances
satin finished blued steel { Rich black color }
EFS 5" barrel accurized air gauged barrel system.
Widened Flared Polished Throated Barrel.
I always thought that any barrel should have rifeling through the barrel but this has none. Is this normal for the described barrel or is it useless with no rifeling, Please help, John.

You should be able to see the lefthand rifling in the barrel. I think you got solfd a bill of goods. Incidently how do you manage to have a centerfire pistol in England? If you want a good replacement barrel for the .45 look at Barstow barrels. Very good quality at a fair price. Beach 0 -
I would send the barrel back and ask for replacement or price adjustment. I dont know about were you live but BATF might consider it a shotgun if the barrel is truely smoothbore. If person you bought it from won't take it back throw it in the trash. Barstow and Kart make great barrels but anything that brownells sells should be ok for a shooter. 0 -
HI PERRY, THANKS FOR THE ADVICE. I have done what you advised and put the barrel in the bin where it belongs. I know there are a few "bums" out there that will con me because of where i live, but at least i know the Gunbroker members are good honest people and give me good advice. Thank you, John.[:)]

If you purchased the parts from Rock Island Armory you should contact them and at least give them the opportunity to make things right for you.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Am I the only one who would have slugged the barrel for dimensions and then decided to keep it or toss it ? 0 -
I bought a Rock Island new about a year ago. Barrel glistended like a happy virgin, and there was indeed rifling in the barrel. Somebody short changed you. 0 -
Let be known I'm no expert.
I would go back to the bin
and retrive the barrel for
two reasons. 1) your new barrel
may not come with the link and
pin. 2) "If" you decide that
someone needs to leave this
world you can help them along
and then toss the barrel away
and no rifling marks.

Don't want to beat a dead horse BUT smooth bore pistol barrels plus BATF = JAIL and no more ownership of fire arms. It will still leave marks on bullet fired from it only much EASIER to match. try to get refund. 0 -
Hi Guy's, thanks for the help and advice, much apreciated. The barrel has now been cut up and put in the trash. turns out the barrel, (part of a complete slide), was sold by The Gallery 2807 Perkiomen ave, Reading PA 19606 and not New Rock Armoury. Still waiting for reply from seller. will keep you all informed, john[V]
