Carbon 15
I'm thinking on purchasing a Bushmaster Carbon 15. Does anyone know the durability of this type of rifle? I don't plan on shooting it alot maybe 1000 rds per year at the most. Also, how good is the accuracy?

Carbon 15
OK. I finally got my Carbon 15. I took it home, cleaned it, oiled it (not too much), and took it to the range. I had several magazines for it some 10 rd, some 20rd., some 30rd., all different manufacturers and makes. Same with the ammo, everything from PMC to Remington. What did I find out? The Carbon 15 jams on just about every 3rd to 4th rd no matter what kind of ammo or magazine. So, I broke it down and cleaned it again but still no luck. It is failing to expel the spent brass and as a result cannot load the live round. I guess in any other semi-automatic pistol this would be referred to as stovepiping? Well, at any rate, I've checked some other websites and I think my problem might be in the hammer. I might try to round it off a bit. Best bet would probably be to send it back to the dealer though unless anyone else has any suggestions.

I have used and owned the Carbon 15 rifle and had zero issues with it. Have you tried the factory mags that came with the carbon 15 pistol? I used Orlite and Thurmold mags in my rifle as well as the factory mags and they worked just fine. My 2 cents [8D]

Hey man, I appreciate the two cents but yep, I've used the factory mag as well as several others to no avail. Mine is the Carbon 15 pistol though. I guess I should have put that in my first post. From what I've heard they are very reliable weapons. I might have just gotten a lemon.

I own a Bushy Carbon 15 rifle. Zero problems so far. I'm not accusing, but is there a chance you are "limp wristing" your pistol?
Many of the 1911 pattern pistols are notorious for stove pipe jambs unless you take a firm grip on the pistol. Some try to avoid the recoil by letting it roll up like a Colt SAA or Ruger single action.
Just a thought to maybe let someone else shoot it a few rounds to rule out technique being the bug.0 -
allechalley, The carbon 15 pistol is based on the ar-15 design, not the 1911.
I have a Carbon 15 pistol. Mine was made by Professional Ordnance in Lake Havasu Ariz, before it was bought out. I initially had extraction problems, but it was solved by a new, stronger, extractor spring. I also sent it back to the factory so they could re-do the chamber.
It does not work well with aluminum GI mags, but favors Orlite or Canadian Thurmold mags.

I'd try new springs first, but I'd sure send it in to Bushmaster before I'd go grinding on any parts. If there WAS any warranty, that kind of home smithing would void it, and when they fixed it they'd bill you for installing new parts to replace the "damaged" ones.

Problem Solved
Strange thing though. I took the bolt assembly out of my Olympic Arms AR and put it into the Bushmaster Carbon 15 and rocked about 50 rds out like it wasn't anybody's business without any problems. Then I decided to try the Bushmaster's bolt assembly in the Olympic Arms and it worked like a dream. Oh well Che Sera Sera. Of course the bolt carriers were not interchangeable but the bolt assemblies are. I appreciate you guys help.
