    David Fortier did a piece on the CZ52 in G&A (I think) and that was around a year ago. Part of the article delt with tuning the 52's and there was a small blurb on the saboted 223 rounds.

    As I recall the saboted rounds were no great shakes in the accuracy department. Of course the premise of spending several hundred dollars to try and make a competitive pistol our of a block of steel designed for fighting is a little off the mark too.

    I ran across some of the sabatoed ammo a few months after the article, they wanted $52.00 per box for it. To darn pricey for me to fool around with.

    CZ52's are great old pistols, and a lot of fun to "plink" around with. And that 7.62x25 round in nothing to sneeze at either. But the "designer" ammo and trying to trick the pistols out to be something they were never intended to be ... that's another matter.

    Now if you want a hot pistol with a bitty bullet ... try out the FN FiveSeven. Nominally $900 out the door and very impressive, plus the ammo for it is only $19 per bx.

    Quality Cartridge makes these up using 50-grain SXSP, calls them .223 Timbs and rates them "for use in CZ52 only." You can special order pretty much anything from them in any cartridge; I also have some of their HP in 7.62x25 -- cost for both loads direct from Quality is around $35 per 50, if memory serves. Seems to me the .223 Timbs tested 1700-1800 fps (and the partially jacketed lead HP at 1500 fps). www.qual-cart.com

    And no, I'm not affiliated with 'em in any way. If you really want to load these yourself, I'm sure they'd even offer you a few tips from their experience.

    Those sabots are $6 per 100. Pick up a copy of Shotgun News.

    Reloading could save you quite a few pennies.

    Don't put the SS109's in those cases. The cops will have a fit.
