1894 38-55
I have a 1905 1894 38-55 In excellant shape. It is a special gun with many extras I have the paper work for it also.It has a half hex half round barrel.It has set triggers.and nickel barrel.Chrome butt and breach. I was wondering how much something like this worth?serial number 239063.anyone out there can help I would appreciate it

According to the serial number you gave it is a 1901 manufacture date.
( according to armscollectors.com ) Beyond that it sounds like you have a nice piece there. A real expert will respond shortly to your question as I am not that educated on your weapons potential value, in the mean time you may search the gunbroker auction archives for a similar item.

First (and this is for everyone who reads this... The serial number listing at the Armscollector.com website contains MANY errors, and is most times incorrect as it applies to Winchester DOMs based on any given serial number. The only way to be sure what the DOM really is, is to obtain a factory letter from the Cody Firearms Museum. Fortunately, the factory records are intact for the first 353,999 Model 1894s made.
As to your Rifle, several things in your description are potentially a problem... specifically;
1. Winchester barrels are alwyas either full octagon, 1/2 octagon 1/2 round, or full round in contour... never hexagon (6-sided).
2. Winchester never "chrome-plated" anything (at least back in those days). The did however on rare ocassion provide "Nickel" or "Silver" plating, but those are very very rare factory finishes. Standard finish has a blued frame and butt plate, and it is very common to find those older Model 1894s with all of the original bluing worn off, which leaves it looking much like it was plated.
3. I am making an assumtion on this (which I hate to do), but by "nickel barrel" do you really mean that it is stamped "Nickel Steel Especially For Smokeless Powder"? If so, that is completely normal.
I have a few questions for you...
1. Does it have a Takedown frame?
2. Does it have a pistol grip buttstock?
3. Are the stockes checkered?
4. What condition is the bore in?
5. What type of sights are on it, and where is/are the rear sight located?
6. What is the condition of the barrel bluing?
7. Can you post pictures?
Without a LOT more information from you, there is no way to provide much in the way of accurate information back to you.

Well I do have the Cody Firearms cert.and it is all original and it is nickel plated or silver I may have the shape of the barrel is half and half as for the shape of the bore Im not sure.I dont have the cert handy here at work but will on Tuesday Ill post everthing on Tuesday.

The Cody factory letter will specify which type of special finish (if any) your Rifle left the factory with. Please quote the exact wording on the factory letter in your future message post.

Hello Larry... That Cody letter is VERY good news for you! If the Rifle is in "Excellent" condition as you first suggested, then the value is going to be exceptionally high for a Model 1894... at least $3500, and depending upon the precise graded condition (to include the bore), it could easily be worth double that amount. I am very interested in seeing a few pictures of this Rifle if you have that capability. Gussied up factory special order Model 1894s are actually quite rare.

I thought it would be worth somewhat more, but thats the first time Ive ever checked. I have the abilty to get a picture to you if you want to give me an email address to send them to, I guess I can just send them this way if I can figure that out Im no tech-no weenie but Im sure I can do that.This all started with me talking to a collector up here in Canada who collected winnchesters who seemed very very interested in it.I thought I would just get a little more information on it before I talked to him further.Ill try and get a picture to you sometime tommorrow.thanks 0 -

Man are you ever an easy mark Bob... I am just yanking your chain a little bit too[:D] (I am feeling especially fiesty today[}:)]) It probably has something to do with the real nice Winchester Model 1885 high-wall chambered in 40-70 Ballard that I was the winning bidder on yesterday[^][:p][:p][^]

I'm sure the real experts have done a good job for you, but one piece of advice - NEVER post the full serial number of a firearm in a public place. I'm not aware of anyone who has been scammed, but it is very rare for one to have need to be so specific and there are plenty of sick puppies in this world. My $0.02 and others may disagree.
